  Just How Much of NY City does the Org Own?

  i've lost track of how the org is doing in ny city.

  does anyone know how close their buildings are to the former twin towers?.

  i've heard that they own quite a lot, perhaps as much as a fulll city block.

  Each of the factory buildings themselves make up a small single city block by themselves. The 25 Bldg is all on it own as well. The thing is that these would not neccessarily by full city blocks in other parts of ther city. As others have mentioned the property owned in the Heights is extensive and valuable to boot.

  As for the big wigs living in fine homes, Ray never said that nor do they. Gangas lived down the hall from me on the 8th floor of 124 and his room was not much bigger than mine. Bethel truly is communal living at its finest... the best you could really hope for was that the time you served would allow for a better room on bid.

  Still I can appreciate the sentiment behind not supporting them any longer.

  Are there any ex-missionaries here??

  i have been a missionary in the dominican republic for almost 10 years and i was wondering if there were any ex-missionaries on this forum.. i am back in my country now for 3 years and totally inactive.. what i noticed in those missionary-years was the lack of spiritual interest among the missionaries.. discussions were about rooms, cars and greater responsibilities, the bad territory.

  and the local c.o.s and d.os.. was this only in the dr or are there other experiences??.

  Your comments about the concerns of the missionaries serving in the home beiong focused on the rooms you lived in, the cars you may or may not have had and the matter of personalities all remind me of the words I heard from Redford & Glass. While serving at Bethel back in the eighties, I had what I then considered to be the privelege of auditing the Gilead lectures and your comments are just mere echoes of what I heard. I walked away from it all thinking that it was a life for anyone but me. I still have a few of my notes and handouts from Glass with the chapeter by chapter review of the bible...

  Any how, life is better on the the outside you'll find just give it some time. So welcome to the board and looking forward to hearing your story more fully.

  How many Artists here? Which field of Art?

  i know i asked this absolutely yonks back, then by the name of celtic, but with so many newcomers here i thought no harm but to ask once again.. how many artists do we have here or working in art related fields including film, music, theatre, environment, gardening, sculpture, graphic design, illustration, fine art, photograpy etc etc?.

  what hobbies do you have?

  how do you see your future artistic horizons opening up?

  I am or should I say, I was a commercial photographer. Haven't picked up a camera in a while for money hence the past tense. I also do graphic design and digital media as a hobby.

  NEW JW POLICY POSTED!!!

  i don't know if anyone has posted on this already but there is a new press release at http://www.jw-media.org/releases/default.htm?content=bg_molestation.htm that defines the current jw policy and i believe it has taken a step in the right direction!.

  although they have not literally changed it to require reporting to the authorities in all states, they have finally put into print the following: "additionally, the victim may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so.".

  i am glad to see, straight from the wt, acknowledgement that the adults involved have every right to go to the police.

  One simple change of phrase by JR and the org that would solve so much of their problem in my opinion is this.

  Instead of saying this: "the victim may wish to report the matter to the authorities, and it is his or her absolute right to do so."

  They should say this: "All victims are encouraged and admonished to immeadiately report the matter to authorities, and that congregation elders also are encouraged to report the matter to local authorities whether state law requires them to do so or not."

  I know, I know... rather idealistic. But even the slightest level of encouragement from the FDS to the average JW has the weight of law and would move many to act more quickly or to act at all on the behalf of the victims. It would also place the investigation in the hands of those who are best equipped to handle it. Namely trained professionals.

  Amazing Survived Major Heart Attack

  i just spoke on the phone to amazing (jim whitney) who is in intensive care in a chicago hospital.

  on monday he had a major heart attack, had a stint put in an artery to unblock things and may have bypass surgery.

  he's comfortable enough right now, but of course will have to make some big lifestyle changes.

  Ciro Alicino's congregation being disolved

  just got off the phone with a friend of mine from brooklyn and he shared this little tid bit with me.

  ciro alicino's (spelling) congregation is being disolved in the next few weeks.

  it seems that soon, yes really, really soon there will be no prospect congregation in brooklyn.

  Prospect is being disolved. As to why, I haven't recieved all the details yet. Though I am anticipating them.

  the two congregations share the same hall. There were 4 congregations meeting in the building and soo it will be three... So one down and three to go ;-).

  Just got off the phone with a friend of mine from Brooklyn and he shared this little tid bit with me. Ciro Alicino's (spelling) congregation is being disolved in the next few weeks. It seems that soon, yes really, really soon there will be no Prospect congregation in Brooklyn.

  For those of you unfamiliar with the UN-DPI NGO flap, Ciro is one of two people who helped apply for the Watchtowers membership.

  The Prospect congregation shares the same space as Brooklyn Center congregation just off of 5th Ave & 8th Street. Brooklyn Center holds the cherished state of being Brooklyn's first congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  i was just wondering....how many of you have actually met each other?

  You've already heard from my wife circe and that we met on the old H2O. As for others, I've had the pleasure of meeting RW & wife and Jim & Marilyn Penton face to face and over meals. I've had phone calls with AlanF & JT, (is there anyone these two haven't spoken to?), and before I forget I've talked to Jeff Schwemm & Kismet as well.

  As I've mentioned a number of times the wife and I are out in the Salt Lake area of Utah. I grew up in Michigan and there were a few posters who would not reveal their names who have remembered me or my family from my time in Michigan. So if Pierced Angel and Heaven and others know any of the Paris tribe then they may know me.

  Seventeen plus years in Brooklyn, NY may or may not make me familiar to others from the east...

  Silent Lambs Advertising Campaign?

  if dateline decides not to air there program concerning the jw pedophile issue then maybe members of this board and other anti- jw sites could all form a advertising co-op fund and use the funds to buy some air time to bring the issue to light.

  you can actually get air time very cheap through the cable companys,i work for aol/time warner in houston tx and i know for a fact that you can buy a thirty second spot on cable for under $3000.00.. of course it wouldnt have as much impact as dateline but i do believe it would generate some publicity and media attention.. each spot could also include the web site locations for more info.. the fund could be set up as a charity are a non-profit organization.. i think it would be a great way to expose the dubs for what they really are.. lets say for example you could get a thousnad members in the co-op each one committing to a minimium of $25.00 per month that would be enough to run about eight spots a month in eight major citys with an audience of probally over five million viewers.. may sound like a pipe dream but i believe it would be easy to set up and to manage.

  Not to totally rain on your parade but at 8 ads per month you would have no ones attention. Typically in the world of advertising if you want the listener / viewers attention you will need them to hear your ad roughly 21 times in one week at a minimum. The next step is to ask when and where you would want those ads run? What quality of production do you want to have for those ads? There are so many more factors that will come into play that your proposal truly becomes an unrealistic prospect unless you find yourself a financial angel with deep pockets.

  And this is all after you've decided what the message is you really want to deliver to the public.

  Hiring a good PR firm with solid media contacts would be a better return on the money. Here you would have someone actively developing the image of your non-profit organiztion in such a way as to possibly get you interviews and additional free expoasure for the issue/s you wish to bring to the publics attention.
